Places to Go: Croatia

I was browsing the other day on National Geographic Traveler’s website, and found a really great article about Croatia.

Croatia has always been a place that fascinated me. It has it all: the sea, the sun, the islands (1,185 of them to be exact), the culture and the history.

And in the article I read, I learned Croatians have something all Americans lack: pomalo. Writer Paul Kvinta learns the meaning of pomalo from an Italian grandmother he meets.

“Pomalo, she explains, is an entrenched Dalmatian philosophy of life that suggests some combination of “easy,” “slowly,” “no problem,” “maybe tomorrow,” “relax,” and “have another coffee.” All of which is fine, Grandma concedes, unless you actually need to accomplish something. “I have a 400-year-old house on Korcula,” she says. “It needs work. You think I can get these people to work on my house? Look at them. Mama mia! It is impossible!”

I’m reading this article just into the middle of exams right now, and would certainly like to catch pomalo abroad in Croatia. I need a break, to relax. I can think of no better than pomalo for exactly what I want in this world right now.

Where do you think the best place to take a break is? What’s the best place to relax?

And in the meantime, check out the article here.
